Thanks to its extremely smooth surface, lenses with Crizal Alizé can be cleaned much more easily than other reflection-free lenses. They are also four times more scratch-resistant than their predecessor.
The low surface energy and low friction coefficient mean that the lens is ten times easier to clean than standard anti-reflection lenses.
The ease of cleaning can be measured under laboratory conditions using a newly designed cleaning test. It consists of leaving a finger mark (the main cause of visual discomfort mentioned by wearers) on the lens and measuring the number of wipes needed to make it disappear.
The unsung heroes of vision, ophthalmic lenses often tend to get
overlooked in importance. There is a wealth of amazing products
available now, allowing thinner, flatter and optically superior
lenses than were previously available.
Materials have also changed. It used to be that glass was significantly
thinner than plastic, but technology has so improved that there
are now plastic lenses that are thinner than glass! The added
advantage of safety and lack of weight make plastic far more popular
than glass.
Our other preferred lens supplier is Zeiss, of binocular and Hubble
telescope fame, who are the world leaders in quality optics. If
you had two pairs of glasses made to prescription, one glazed
with Zeiss and the other with an inferior manufacturer, you would
be able to tell the difference. The stronger your prescription,
the greater the disparity and therefore the greater the potential
visual improvement.
